Prince Harry and Meghan are ‘fully expected’ to be invited to a special service for the Duke of Edinburgh next year, according to royal sources.

Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that the Queen has approved a thanksgiving mass to remember the life of her late husband Prince Philip, who died in April.

It is understood the guest list is still being finalised but the Sussexes, who now live in California, will make the cut.

Many see it as a good way to ‘break the ice’ between the couple and their estranged relatives following their bombshell departure from the UK and royal life, the Daily Mail reports.

But despite the potential rapprochement, there is still likely to be concern over Harry’s forthcoming ‘tell-all’ memoir, which is due to be published next autumn after his grandmother’s platinum jubilee.

Harry and Meghan quit as working members of the royal family in January 2020, a step that caused a crisis within the establishment.

Tensions escalated this year following a series of truth bomb interviews in which the couple accused their relatives of racism and neglecting their mental health.

Harry has flown home a few times this year, including for his grandfather’s funeral and for the unveiling of a statue in memory of his mother, Princess Diana.

But Meghan has not been in the UK since March last year.

The couple’s son, Archie, has not seen his great-grandmother The Queen, grandfather, uncle and cousins since he was a baby, while their daughter Lilibet has not met them at all.

Yesterday the couple revealed their first picture of baby Lilibet in a touching family Christmas card which they are said to have sent to their royal relatives.

And despite reports of a rift, a royal expert has claimed Prince William and Kate will send gifts to their niece and nephew in the states.

Katie Nicholl said the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge still want to keep their Christmas traditions going.

‘They give gifts to the whole family and that includes all their nieces and nephews,’ she told OK Magazine.

The royal author previously said the Sussexes might celebrate Christmas in the UK this year in an attempt to patch things up with their relatives.

But the couple are expected to celebrate Christmas in the US again amid rising Omicron infections.

Her Majesty will spend December 25 at Windsor Castle, deciding to cancel her traditional family lunch at her Sandringham estate for a second year due to Covid.

A Clarence House spokesperson revealed that she would be joined by Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

But Prince William and Kate will not be there as they are spending the day in Norkfolk, along with members of the Middleton family, according to reports.
