A 20-year-old man has admitted killing his own mother at her home in Staffordshire.

Suzanne Henry, 54, died in hospital two days after she was found with ‘serious facial injuries’ in the village of Madeley on May 1 this year.

Her son Finn Henry had previously denied murder and a trial was set to begin on Monday.

But he has now pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Stafford Crown Court.

The murder case against him has been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Suzanne was rushed to Royal Stoke University hospital following an incident at her house in Newcastle Road.

She died on May 3.

Prosecutor Maria Karaiskos KC said: ‘The Crown is no longer prosecuting the murder allegation as a result of expert evidence from a psychiatrist.

‘I will enter no evidence for murder when the sentence is passed for manslaughter.’

Henry is now expected to be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court in February after a joint report is prepared for the court by two psychiatrists.

Judge Rupert Mayo ordered the joint report from the two psychiatrists to be available to the court by January 8, 2024.

He told Henry: ‘I need their help before I pass sentence on you for manslaughter.

‘It is likely it will be some time in February.’

The judge remanded Henry in custody.

Earlier this year, a 100-year-old grandma with dementia was allegedly killed by her own grandson.
