Fire crews called to huge blaze at former swimming baths

Fire crews have been dealing with a massive blaze at a former swimming baths in Manchester.

They were called to Barlow Road, in Levenshulme, at 6.30pm, to a fire on the roof of the former Levenshulme swimming pools building.

Traffic has been diverted away from the area while fire crews dealt with the blaze.

The building has been stood derelict for more than a decade and a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: ‘At 6.30pm this evening, firefighters were called to a fire on Barlow Road, Manchester.

‘Fire engines from Gorton, Moss Side, Stockport, Salford and Whitehill, alongside the technical response unit from Ashton, arrived quickly at the scene. The fire involved the roof of a derelict building.

‘Crews wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and three jets to contain the fire. GMFRS remain at the scene.’
