An ex-aide to Donald Trump claims that his former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani groped her on the day of the Capitol riot.
Cassidy Hutchinson, a 27-year-old who testified before the congressional January 6 committee, accuses Giuliani of groping her backstage at Trump’s speech in which he urged his supporters to fight the 2020 election results.
Hutchinson writes in her forthcoming memoir, Enough, that Giuliani put his hand ‘under my blazer, then my skirt’ just ‘like a wolf closing in on its prey’.
‘I feel his frozen fingers trail up my thigh,’ she writes in an excerpt obtained by The Guardian on Wednesday.
‘He tilts his chin up. The whites of his eyes look jaundiced. My eyes dart to (Trump adviser) John Eastman, who flashes a leering grin.
‘I fight against the tension in my muscles and recoil from Rudy’s grip… filled with rage, I storm through the tent, on yet another quest for Mark.’
Hutchinson served as executive assistant to Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows. She eventually had a falling out with Meadows and did not end up becoming permanent staff at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence. She details her journey in her memoir set to be published next Tuesday.
Giuliani’s political adviser and spokesman Ted Goodman questioned Hutchinson’s timing in coming out with her allegations against the former New York City mayor.
‘It’s fair to ask Cassidy Hutchinson why she is just now coming out with these allegations from two and a half years ago, as part of the marketing campaign for her upcoming book release,’ stated Goodman.
‘This is a disgusting lie against Mayor Rudy Giuliani – a man whose distinguished career in public service includes taking down the mafia, cleaning up New York City and comforting the nation following September 11.’
Hutchinson’s groping allegations are the latest problems to hit Giuliani, who represented Trump in his efforts to fight the election results. Giuliani is a co-defendant along with Trump in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ election subversion investigation.
Giuliani is struggling to pay legal expenses in the midst of a $10million lawsuit from a ex-personal assistant and a $1.3million suit from his own lawyer for unpaid fees. He has remained loyal to Trump, who recently held a $100,000-per-plate fundraiser to help him.
Hutchinson was a star witness in hearings by the House select committee that probed the insurrection. She offered a first-hand account of Trump’s attack on security detail who refused to take him to the Capitol as his fans stormed the building, trying to stop the election certification.
Trump has denied multiple parts of Hutchinson’s testimony.
