Martin Luther King Jr’s last living sibling, civil rights activist Christine King Farris, has died.

Farris died on Thursday morning at the age of 95 in Atlanta, Georgia, the King Center said. She died peacefully with family members at her side.

‘As the eldest sibling of my father, Martin Luther King, Jr, Aunt Christine embodied what it meant to be a public servant,’ tweeted Martin Luther King III.

‘Like my dad, she spent her life fighting for equality and against racism in America.’

Farris marched from Selma to Montgomery in 1965 as well as the March Against Fear in 1966 in Mississippi, among other major civil rights movements events.

She served as a founding board member of the nonprofit organization that Coretta Scott King started after her husband was assassinated.

The King Center’s CEO and Martin Luther King Jr’s daughter, Bernice King, tweeted: ‘I love you and will miss you, Aunt Christine.’

Farris was born in Atlanta and attended Spelman College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in economics. She earned two master’s degrees in education from Columbia University. Farris taught and served as the director of Spelman’s Learning Resources Center.
