Ex-homeless man who caught runaway pram gets job he interviewed for just before rescue

The man who caught a runaway stroller destined to roll onto a busy highway got a new job after the video of his heroism went viral.

Ron Nessman, a formerly homeless man, is being hailed as a hero for saving a baby from traffic on a busy Hesperia, California street on Wednesday, May 3.

The pram was propelled out of reach from the baby’s great aunt by heavy winds, which swept through southern California last week causing dust storms.

Oncoming cars typically drive 50-55 miles per hour down the busy commercial street.

The video of the daring rescue has now been viewed millions of times.

‘I knew I could get it and I got it and I’m thankful for that because I really wouldn’t want to see the end result if I wasn’t there,’ Nessman told NBC 4 Los Angeles.

Nessman told the local station the baby’s aunt was blown over by the dust storm. ‘She tried everything she possibly could to get up,’ he told the local station. ‘Her knees were bleeding when I got up to her. She was still shocked and she was crying.’

Nessman said he happened to be at the right place at the right time because he was walking back from a job interview at an Applebee’s.

The quick-thinking Good Samaritan spent the last eight years homeless. He has since begun rebuilding his life, after living with his sister for the past three months.

On Friday, Nessman revealed he got the job that took him to the street that day. He begins work soon as a dishwasher at the restaurant.

‘I’ll earn everything I get so with that in mind, you know, I appreciate the opportunity that Applebee’s has given me,’ he told NBC 4. ‘It’s really cool.’
