A puppy has been rescued after being thrown out of a car window inside a designer handbag during a police chase.
The chase started around Avalon Boulevard and 99th Street in South Los Angeles around midday on Friday. An attempted murder and carjacking suspect was in a Chevy Avalanche under pursuit, Fox 5 reported.
When the suspect’s pickup truck hit another car, the driver got into the back of another vehicle that seemed to be waiting. That vehicle then led cops through Willowbrook and back around to South Los Angeles.
Someone inside the vehicle threw the puppy, which was in a brown Michael Kors bag, out the window around Figueroa and 56th streets. Cops picked up the puppy and took it to South LA Animal Services.
‘Miraculously the dog emerged unharmed and was rescued by responding LAPD officers,’ stated the Los Angeles Police Department in an update posted on Twitter on Saturday.
The puppy was held at the facility pending an investigation into the abandonment concern. The puppy is not up for adoption.
‘All is well as you can see – this little puppy’s doing just fine, and we just wanted to be able to let all your viewers know that all is well,’ said LA Animal Services animal care technician supervisor Matthew Spease.
The car chase concluded when the driver and passengers got out of the vehicle in a residential area of Carson. A man ran towards a residence but was quickly taken into custody by cops, who also captured a female driver. A third suspect was also arrested.
They have been identified as Gustavo Alvarez, 27, Lynette Moreno, 27, and Michelle Zamudio, 25.
Alvarez was wanted in connection to an attempted murder and carjacking around San Pedro and 101st streets on March 26. Zamudio is accused of driving the second car and Moreno of setting up the getaway on that vehicle.
