Former First Lady Melania Trump ditched her husband Donald Trump’s first speech after being criminally charged for his alleged role in paying to silence a porn star’s claims of an affair.
Ex-President Trump walked into his Mar-a-Lago resort to cheers on Tuesday night hours after being arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court in the Stormy Daniels hush money case. Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges.
Before he entered the room, various family members arrived in good spirits. His smiling eldest son Donald Trump Jr and his fiancé Kimberly Guilfoyle arrived arm-in-arm first, followed by his youngest daughter Tiffany Trump and her husband Michael Boulos.
The former president’s second eldest son Eric Trump walked in clapping alongside his wife Lara Trump.
But Melania was not seen entering, or in a photo of the Trump family in the front row. Standing from left to right were Eric, Lara, Melania’s father Viktor Knavs, Don Jr, Guilfoyle, Tiffany and Boulos.
The ex-president in his remarks mentioned his eldest daughter Ivanka Trump – who was also not present – and his son with Melania, Barron, who was not there. However, he did not mention Melania, who was pregnant with Barron when Trump allegedly had an affair with Daniels.
Melania accompanied her husband from Mar-a-Lago to New York City for his arraignment. She was pictured arriving at Trump Tower on Monday after they flew to LaGuardia Airport, and went to the courthouse in lower Manhattan.
The former first lady ‘remains angry and doesn’t want to hear’ about the hush payment, a source told People last week.
‘They weren’t expecting (the indictment), but Melania will support him. That’s what she does. They are a family.’
And a person close to Melania told the Daily Mail that she ‘is strong’ and ‘focused on her family and stands behind her husband, as she always has’.
‘For the past seven years, the left has made multiple attempts to smear and attack her family,’ the person said. ‘And this is just the latest attempt to bring him down.’
