A KFC customer shot a worker after reportedly getting upset that the fried chicken fast food restaurant had run out of corn.

The gunman believed to be in his 40s or 50s shot a 25-year-old employee identified by his brother as Deon Thomas, KSDK reported.

Employees at the drive-thru on 5020 Delmar Blvd told the suspect that they were out of corn on Monday evening, according to the St Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The suspect then threatened workers via the speaker box and pulled up to the window with a gun, police told KDSK.

One of the workers went outside and went back inside the KFC minutes later saying he had been shot, police said.

‘It’s crazy. It’s ludicrous,’ Deon’s brother, Norman Thomas, told the TV station.

‘It just happened all of a sudden from what I understand.’

After walking up and allegedly shooting Deon on the side, the suspect jumped back into a car and drove away, co-workers told police.

A KFC boss drove Deon to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and is recovering, according to his brother.

‘It’s real sick. I can’t understand what’s going on with these people today. For him to want to shoot him for corn. What? Really?’ the brother said.

Deon was shot two weeks before his birthday. He began working at KFC as a cook and was promoted to assistant manager, Norman said.

‘He loves it,’ his brother said. ‘That’s why he worked his way up. He didn’t want to go anywhere else. He wanted to work there.’

The suspect remains on the run, which Norman hopes will change soon.

‘They need to catch him,’ Norman said. ‘It’s a blessing my little brother’s alive.’

The KFC shooting happened several months after a McDonald’s worker in Brooklyn, New York, was shot and critically injured during a fight over cold French fries. A 40-year-old woman reportedly complained to her 20-year-old son about the fries on FaceTime. Her son allegedly got in a dispute with an employee that went outside, and shot the worker in the neck.
