A toddler starved to death after his father died of a cardiovascular disease and he was unable to fend for himself.

David Conde Jr, 2, was found in the same bedroom as his dad, David Conde Sr, 59, at their apartment in Geneva, New York, on February 15.

Nine months later, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office has released their causes of death. The toddler succumbed to malnourishment after his dad died of natural causes from heart disease.

‘It is believed Mr Conde passed away first and the child was not able to obtain any nourishment after his father passed,’ stated deputies, according to Syracuse.com.

The boy’s cause of death did not shock investigators, according to Sheriff’s Lt Dave Cirencione.

‘Once we ruled out carbon monoxide, we sadly knew this was a likely cause,’ Cirencione told Finger Lakes Times. ‘This is a very, very sad case.’

The father and son were last seen on January 22. Deputies found them after being contacted to do a welfare check because Conde Sr had not contacted anyone in a week.

Neither had visible signs of trauma on their bodies.

‘We want to do everything we can to get answers for the family so they can get closure,’ said Cirencione, according to Democrat & Chronicle.

‘It was a very difficult scene for us to work, for all the first responders that had to go in there. This isn’t something we see every day. It’s not pleasant. It was a very disturbing scene.’

An obituary for the two-year-old described him as ‘a beautiful baby boy with curly locks, that had a determined smile and sweet disposition’.

‘Despite his medical condition at birth, he had recently learned to walk, following many surgeries and months of casts and rehabilitation,’ states the obituary.

The boy is survived by his mother, Michelle Travers, six brothers and a sister. His father had custody of him and his mother was reportedly not active in his life.
