Twitter suffered a major outage across Europe and the US after a botched update.
The social media site was entirely unresponsive for some users and there was a surge in reports of people experiencing problems.
It’s now back up and running, the company’s support account confirmed.
A tweet read: ‘We made an internal systems change that didn’t go as planned and have rolled it back.
‘Twitter should now be loading as expected. Sorry about that!’
According to web monitor Down Detector, the problem impacted users on both sides of the Atlantic.
Some people trying to access the website on a computer web browser were met only with a loading page.
The company’s mobile phone app was also experiencing a big slowdown.
According to internet tracker Netblock, the platform was ‘experiencing international outages’.
It said the problem did not appear to be ‘related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering’.
A Twitter spokesperson confirmed an issue was affecting the site but did not provide further information before announcing a solution had been found around an hour later.
The social media site last experienced a major technical problem in mid-July which last for nearly three hours.
Millions of users were unable to access their accounts, post new tweets or refresh their timeline.
It was notorious for outages in its early years before becoming a more stable platform.
Twitter suffered another widespread outage in February that it blamed on a software glitch.
