Today is the August bank holidaythe last one to enjoy before the festive period.

So, the pressure is on to make this one count. And if you’re around London, you can spend it enjoying the Notting Hill Carnival.

There’ll also be plenty of other activities happening elsewhere, whether you want to hit the shops, go to the cinema or just meet up with friends.

So, if you are out and about over the Bank Holiday, will the buses be running?

Here is everything you need to know.

Do buses run on a bank holiday?

Buses – and trains – do indeed run on bank holidays, unless there’s been a specific announcement for a particular service.

For example, some train lines will carry out essential maintenance on bank holidays, but there is usually plenty of forewarning.

Buses will otherwise be running throughout the bank holiday, but less frequently than a normal Monday.

Most bus services run their Sunday service on bank holidays, meaning you can still catch a bus, but they might end earlier or have longer gaps in service.

The only thing to be wary of this bank holiday is the London bus strike. Over 1,600 workers are staging a walkout led by trade union United.

This will affect several routes across the capital.

If you’re one of the Britons needing to travel this bank holiday, most bus services have a timetable you can track online so you aren’t left waiting for a bus that isn’t going to come.
