It’s August Bank Holiday, which for most of us means the chance to grab a well-earned long weekend before summer draws to a close and pupils return to school for the new term.
And that means various high street shops may be operating with different hours – although most will be remaining open for those seeking retail therapy or essentials.
But if you’re looking to make financial changes today, are banks open?
Read on to find out whether your branch is operating.
Are banks open on August bank holiday Monday?
Almost all banks will be closed today across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Branches of the below will not open today:
- HSBC
- Barclays
- TSB
- Royal Bank of Scotland
- Lloyd’s
- Halifax
- Nationwide
- NatWest
- Santander
The only bank that does not have reduced hours is Metro Bank, which is open every day except for Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday.
However, you should also note that banks will be open as usual in Scotland – where today is not a bank holiday – the summer bank holiday there was at the start of August.
If you need to contact your bank while its closed, many have online chat services that allow you to speak with an advisor.
Most branches will also have emergency fraud lines open, so if you have an immediate issue with your card, it should still be possible to cancel it.
Check your bank’s website for their contact information.
