Two teenage boys were arrested Monday in connection to the triple-fatal shooting of three members of the same family, including a five-year-old boy who was reportedly shot execution-style.
The victims were found dead in the family home Sunday evening when a relative stopped by after not hearing from the family in weeks.
The family of Caleb Harris said they believe he was shot execution style, or at a very close range. The five-year-old’s mother, Lashon Marshall, and her boyfriend, Aaron Benson, were also found dead inside of the family’s Detroit, Michigan home.
Shalesa Floyd, who learned of the tragedy late Sunday evening, spoke about about the loss of her young grandson.
‘He was wonderful, very playful. A beautiful baby, a wonderful grandson,’ Shalesa Floyd said.
‘For you to shoot a 5-year-old in the face? Twice? You could have let him go so he could remain and live,’ Floyd said.
‘To do this — it’s like a monster would do this,’ the grandmother told Click on Detroit.
Two teenage suspects, ages 16 and 17, were arrested Monday, Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis told Fox2. Their identities have not been revealed, but they were known to the victims, according to police.
Authorities are still working to determine a motive behind the grisly murders.
‘This case, like so many others, has tugged at the heart and spirit of this department,’ Detroit Police Chief James White said.
Police say the bodies of the victims may have been at the home for days prior to a welfare check revealing the horrific discovery.
Authorities reportedly used surveillance footage from nearby businesses as well as tips to identify the suspects. Police also obtained search warrants and the two suspects were taken into custody on Tuesday without incident.
Charges against the two teens were pending as of Wednesday.
