At least 31 injured after fire rips through flat block in New York

Approximately 200 FDNY members are operating on scene of a 5-alarm fire at 333 East 181 Street in the Bronx. There are currently 19 serious injuries to civilians.

At least 31 people are believed to have been seriously injured after a fire tore through an apartment block in New York.

Witnesses claimed to have seen residents jumping from the 19-storey building after the blaze broke out on Sunday morning, with footage indicating several of the lower floors were gutted out.

It took the efforts of 200 firefighters to bring the fire under control and save the victims from a potentially horrific fate, the city’s fire department said.
