Police officers called to reports of a woman screaming in pain suddenly found themselves delivering a Christmas baby earlier this week.
The three male constables arrived at an address in Hertfordshire to far more than they bargained for and had to help the woman give birth before ambulance staff arrived.
One announced ‘I can see the head’ to medics on the phone, before 29-year-old mum Chantal gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Kaiden.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, December 22 in Hertford.
PCs James Parker, Ben Roberts and Jamie Atkinson, from Hertfordshire Constabulary emergency response team, had been called to an address to reports that a woman had been heard screaming but had no idea she was actually in labour.
They eventually left mum and baby in the care of the ambulance service, who arrived a short time later.
Superintendent Dean Patient explained: ‘This really does prove that no two days in policing are the same and that our officers should always expect the unexpected’.
