Toddler found dead in lake 45 mins after mum reported him missing from country manor home

A toddler was found dead in a lake just 45 minutes after being reported missing by his mum.

Family and police officers frantically searched the grounds of a large property, Maesycrugiau Manor, to find Finley Howell Sanders.

His mum first realised the 18-month-old boy had disappeared from the Carmarthenshire hotel at around 10pm on May 26.

She called the police but it just took just 45 minutes for the full scale of the tragedy to be revealed, WalesOnline reports.

The Swansea boy was found unresponsive in a body of water close to the manor house less than an hour later.

An inquest has been launched to investigate his death, which was confirmed the next morning despite desperate attempts to revive him from paramedics.

Speaking at the opening of the hearing, coroner’s officer for Dyfed-Powys Police Hayley Rogers said: ‘At 10pm on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, police received an emergency call from a distressed female stating that she was unable to find her 18-month-old son at Maesycrugiau Manor.

‘A search within the grounds ensued and at 10.45pm the child, identified as Finley Howell Sanders, of Heol y Nant, Clydach, was found unresponsive in one of the lakes within the grounds.’

Finley was pronounced dead a short time later in the early hours of the following morning, ‘despite the best efforts of the emergency services’.

A Dyfed-Powys Police investigation was launched and is still ongoing.

Acting senior coroner for Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, Paul Bennett, extended his sympathies to the family adjourned the inquest for a period of three months.
