A man who refused to get the Covid jab until long-term scientific data was available has tragically died with the virus.

Brian Lynch, 46, urged others to get the two shots before he passed away, saying coronavirus had made him feel like he was being ‘suffocated in his own body’.

The removal firm boss vowed to get the vaccine if he survived after being admitted to Royal Blackburn Hospital on July 7.

Writing on Facebook, he explained he ‘hadn’t been feeling well’ so had taken a PCR test – ‘despite what I think about testing and Covid vaccines’.

After being placed on a ventilator, Brian said it was ‘the most frightened I’ve ever been’.

Sharing a selfie from his hospital bed, he wrote: ‘I’ll be honest, I thought it was the vulnerable and the elderly who got hospitalised.

‘Well, as I found out the hard way, my oxygen levels went down to 52 per cent and I could not get my breath.’

He added: ‘So to anyone that may have similar sort of thoughts to this (as) I had, I just have to say this – I hope it doesn’t get you.’

The Lancashire native was optimistic for a full recovery, saying ‘hopefully I’ll be out soon’.

But five days later, he wrote: ‘Well been awake since 4.45am woke up coughing fit again just managed to calm down after nearly an hour.

‘This Covid cough really is brutal can’t wait for it to dissipate. Can’t catch ya breath with it, just takes all your energy.’

He was later placed in a medically induced coma and died with wife Gina and other family members by his side on 31 July.

Gina caught the virus at the same time but recovered at home.

Tributes have flooded in for Brian, who has been described as ‘one of the best people’.

A pub fundraiser had been planned for August 1st to support him when he came out of hospital.

Family friend Nicky Ashton said the gathering went ahead as it is ‘what Brian would have wanted’.

She said: ‘We filled the pub inside and out – the day turned into a celebration full of love, tears and lots of talk and fond memories of Brian.

‘Most of Blackburn followed his story over the three weeks that Brian was in a coma and almost everyone you spoke to knew of his fight.

‘He really was one of the best people, that would help anyone out and he will be missed so much by so many.’

Mourners are encouraged to wear green, Brian’s favourite colour, at his funeral, held at Pleasington Crematorium on 13 August.
