A police officer has been rushed to hospital after a crash in Birmingham city centre.
The officer had to be cut free from the wreckage following the smash between a police vehicle and an Uber.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the A4400 St Chads Queensway on Saturday morning.
Another officer who was in the police car suffered minor injuries, while the taxi driver and a passenger escaped unhurt.
The major road was shut for hours and a cordon was put in place while the incident was dealt with.
One eyewitness, named only as Steven, who saw the incident unfold from inside the nearby PureGym, said: ‘I saw all this happening from out the window.
‘It’s really bad. Shocking. Just hope everyone involved is okay.’
Pictures from the scene show the crashed police vehicle with its roof removed after the officer had been pulled free.
West Midlands Police said on X: ‘St Chads Queensway is currently closed at Snow Hill Queensway after a collision involving a police vehicle and a taxi.
‘An officer driving the police car which was responding to an incident, had to be cut out of the vehicle and has been taken to hospital.
‘Another officer in the vehicle received minor injuries. The taxi driver and a passenger, thankfully were uninjured.’
The force later added: ‘Both officers have been checked over at hospital and have nothing more serious than cuts and bruises.’
