A gunman who fired bullets at a wedding has been jailed after he claimed the gunshots were fireworks.
Shamail Malek, 21, pulled up to the venue hosting more than 100 guests in a car with cloned plates before a suspected shotgun was fired hitting a white Seat.
Malek then pulled a revolver out of his trousers and fired six times at the group of people in Wolverhampton.
Thankfully no one was hit.
But the brazen gunman claimed the sound of gunfire was nothing more than fireworks he let off.
Forensic experts at West Midlands Police found bullet holes and ricochet marks on the venue’s walls.
Malek was arrested his home in Lynton Avenue three days later.
He was sentenced on Thursday after a jury found him of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Appearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court the gunman was jailed for three years and six months for the attack in Wolverhampton on July 1.
DS Jon Baker from Wolverhampton CID, said: ‘This was a totally reckless action and it was by luck rather than by design that no one was seriously injured or killed.
‘The illegal and reckless use of firearms is absolutely not acceptable and we always strive to identify, trace and bring before the courts those who create such fear and danger to our streets.
‘We are continuing with our investigations to establish and detain any others involved in this incident and we’d appeal for anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to us but believes they can help, to get in touch.’
