A massive fire has engulfed a building directly next to a retail park in Nottinghamshire.

Thick plumes of smoke have been rising high into the sky as the inferno rips through an industrial waste site at Northgate Retail Park in Newark-on-Trent.

Images show the flames roaring and smoke billowing from one of the premises on the shopping parade.

Businesses at the site include Next, Boots, Peacocks, B&M and Home Bargains.

Other pictures shared online show smoke visible for miles around and police already at the scene.

A witness said that she’d seen fire engines with sirens blaring heading in the direction of the retail park from Collingham.

Fire crews have confirmed that the blaze involves industrial waste in Northgate.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said on X, formerly Twitter: ‘Six fire engines plus the command unit and welfare unit remain on scene in Newark.

‘The fire is being dampened down, but we will likely be in attendance into the night.

‘Please continue to avoid the area.’

The shopping centre lies just outside the centre of the town.
