The University of Oxford is internationally famous for its prestige and reputation for being one of the best – and oldest – universities in the world.
But that doesn’t mean it’s immune from hiding a naughty secret or two of its own.
Or at least someone had been keeping a saucy stash under the floorboards at St John’s College.
Although it seems they must have completely forgotten about the racy French porn magazines from the 1940s that were stowed beneath blissfully unaware scholars, past and present.
Electrician Stuart Panter was stunned to find the hoard of erotic mags dating back around 80 years when he was pulling up the floor to carry out some rewiring work with his colleagues.
Buried among a whole array of items, including a Durex gossamer condom wrapper, the photos weren’t full nudity but they were still pretty spicy.
They included topless models with some wearing provocative lingerie and underwear, while others posed for snaps, which, let’s say… had some not so accidental nip slip.

‘We found these amazing porno mags from the 1940s,’ Stuart said. ‘They are not very racy but they have literally been under the floor for decades.
‘So they are a little bit crumbly now. Most of the women are fully clothed, but there is some mild nudity as you go through.’
The steamy pictures – some in colour and some in black and white – also showed women smiling at the beach or in sand dunes.
Others posed lying on beds with only a blanket to cover their lower private area, while Stuart also made another shrewd observation and described his other unexpected finds.
‘We noticed that everyone from that era had shaved armpits,’ he said. ‘Not quite as old but equally fascinating, we found a Durex gossamer condom wrapper.
‘It says it is electronically tested and not to be used after December 2075. From the look of it, the lad got lucky.
‘I hope it was the night of his life because it’s been remembered 60 years later.
‘Even cooler than that, we found a metal object used for tapping down the tobacco, with the seal of St John’s College on it. This is about 400 years old.’
Alongside the magazines were a mummified rat whose skin had turned to leather and a selection of animal bones.
Old corks, bottle tops, a shopping list, noting letters, flowers, bus times, shampoo, cake and clay pipe stems and bowls lay under the floor as well.
The workers also found the centrepiece from a mortar board hat thought to date from the 1940s.
Oh, and a broken egg cup, a wooden matchbox, a packet of cigarettes and a letter from St Mary’s College addressed to ‘Paul’ saying he’d won a prize.
Stuart, who has a keen interest in his6tory, added: ‘Hopefully, he got all this before he lost this piece of paper.’
Oxford University of all places eh…
Earlier this year, an incredible haul of vintage comics and toys ‘worth millions’ were found engulfing an abandoned house.
