A teenage boy allegedly shot his brother dead and had a hit list that included his other family members and plans to open fire at school.

An unnamed 14-year-old boy confessed to shooting his 17-year-old brother from the porch of their Alabama home, said Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas.

The 17-year-old boy was discovered dead outside their home on Tuesday afternoon, said the sheriff, according to WSFA. His father said he had been missing since Monday.

After being shot, the older brother staggered out of the home and fell to the bottom of the back steps, the suspect told the sheriff. The suspect added that he dragged the victim roughly 60 yards to the back of the property and that his father upon returning asked where his older brother was.

The next day, the school asked the 14-year-old boy’s dad to pick him up early because he appeared upset over his missing older brother. They searched for him and the father found the 17-year-old’s body and called police.

Later, investigators found out that the suspect admitted responsibility for the killing to a friend at school.

‘He then asked his friend to help him murder the rest of his family and help him bury their bodies,’ said Thomas.

‘The friend also stated the 14-year-old had a hit list in his bookbag of family members he wanted to kill and made statements about wanting to shoot up the school.’

Sheriff’s deputies looked through the suspect’s bag and found the hit list.

‘We are very fortunate and blessed we do not have more casualties as a result of a 14-year-old having access to a weapon,’ Thomas said.

The boy was arrested and charged with murder.

It was not immediately known how he got hold of the gun or if any family members would face charges.

Pike County Schools Superintendent Mark Bazzell stated that the district ‘would like to express its deepest condolences to the family and friends impacted by this tragic event’.

There was no evidence of threats to the school system. Still, the police presence was boosted at the Brundidge campuses and mental health support was offered to students and staff.
