Three police officers in Philadelphia were shot and injured after responding to a dispute over a video game.

Around 7.00pm on Wednesday night, Philadelphia police officers responded to a 911 call placed by a 12-year-old boy in Rhawnhurst.

The boy, who has not been identified, told police his father had been arguing with him about the volume of his video game. The argument turned violent when his uncle intervened.

According to police, the boy and the uncle hid in the home’s upper level after the father fired a single shot in the house. Police believe the father then fired another round, critically injuring the uncle.

The child and uncle called 911, while the father waited in ambush at his front door. When police arrived at the home, the father opened fire.

‘When officers arrived, he begins to immediately fire upon our officers, striking two officers and one sergeant,’ Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Stanford said.

Two were hit in the legs, while the third was hit in the finger.

The father was killed when responding police officers returned fire.

Both the boy and an unidentified woman were able to escape from the house uninjured. The uncle was hospitalized in critical condition.

The three officers were taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital and are in stable condition.

‘It is stunning, I thank God that they’re okay,’ Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said at a press conference on Wednesday night. ‘I thank them for their bravery, and their desire to do this job, which is very, very difficult.’

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he was ‘relieved’ to hear that the wounded officers were ‘stable, with loved ones, and on the path to recovery.’

‘Again, we’re reminded of law enforcement’s bravery as they run towards danger.’
