An American Airlines flight attendant who was found dead with a cloth stuffed in her mouth at an airport hotel room has been identified and pictured.

Diana Ramos, 66, of Las Vegas, was found by cleaning staff of a Marriott hotel at Philadelphia International Airport on Monday night, police said. She was supposed to have checked out of the hotel two days earlier.

Pictures from Ramos’ Facebook page showed her wearing an all-black flight attendant outfit with a red neck scarf, and a pink tie-dyed dress with the ocean in the background.

Ramos was discovered around 10.45pm with ‘a cloth in her mouth’, said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. Investigators said it was a sock, WPVI reported.

An investigation into the death is ongoing and police did not release further details on Thursday afternoon.

Ramos worked for American Airlines for 25 years and was on a layover in Philadelphia after staffing a flight from Los Angeles, according to the airline.

Staff are ‘devastated by the news’, stated an American Airlines spokesperson.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure all affected have the support they need during this difficult time,’ stated the spokesperson.

‘We will continue to cooperate fully with local law enforcement in their investigation.’

An anonymous American Airlines flight attendant told People that ‘everybody is still trying to figure out what happened and why her crew just left her’.

Small previously said that Ramos appeared to suffer a ‘sudden death’. There were no signs of forced entry into the hotel room and sealed bottles of prescription drugs were reportedly found. She was believed to have been on several medications. Ramos’ death is considered ‘suspicious’, Small said.

Ramos’ body was taken to a medical examiner’s office on Wednesday and results of the autopsy are still pending.
