A Swiss teenager has allegedly become the latest vandal to deface Rome’s ancient amphitheatre.

The 17-year-old girl was reportedly caught in the act of carving the letter N into the wall of the Colosseum, one of the historic city’s most famous landmarks.

Footage of the incident appears to show the teen using either a coin or a small rock to begin etching her name on the stone.

David Battaglino, the person who reportedly recorded the act, told local press: ‘It is the first time I have managed to film an act of vandalism at the Colosseum but in six years I have seen dozens. There are also those who rip off parts of the wall.’

He added: ‘They even spat on me once for scolding a boy.’

Mr Battaglino is also thought to have reported the incident to authorities, who then brought the girl and her parents in for questioning.

He claims the family were relatively unphased by her behaviour, telling police ‘she’s just a kid, she wasn’t doing anything wrong.’

The incident could nevertheless cost her and her parents up to 15,000 euros in fines.

It follows just a month after Ivan Dimitrov, 27, a fitness instructor from Bristol, was unmasked for allegedly attempting to carve his girlfriend’s name into the side of the 2,000-year-old Unesco World Heritage Site.

Dimitrov was reportedly videoed by an American tourist, Ryan Lutz, carving the words ‘Ivan and Hayley 23’ into the stone with a set of keys, in a reference to his presumed partner.

In the video Ryan can be heard saying ‘Are you serious man? That is f***** up man. Stupid a******.’

Ivan then appears to turn round and grin at Ryan before resuming carving.
