The suspected gunman in a mass shooting in Philadelphia on the eve of July 4 has been identified as a computer nerd while the five victims have been named.

Kimbrady Carriker, 40, was arrested in connection with a shooting that killed five men and injured two children in the Kingsessing neighborhood, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Tuesday.

The five men have been identified as Daujan Brown, 15; Lashyd Merritt, 20; Ralph Moralis, 59; Dymir Stanton, 29; and Joseph Wamah, Jr, 31.

Both children who were shot in the legs were not named. They are listed in stable condition.

The motive, and if the suspect and victims had any connection, is not yet known.

A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest with an AR-style rifle and handgun opened fire as families partook in Fourth of July festivities in the neighborhood.

Tina Rosette, 49, who lived with Carriker in 2021, told the Inquirer that Carriker enjoyed working on computers and was ‘really smart, intelligent, creative’.

Carriker had ‘an aggressive approach to some things in life’, Rosette said, but added that she had never seen him armed with a gun. He taught some people how to fight in self-defense, she claimed.
