A man in Minnesota was arrested for murder after his wife was found dead from a hit-and-run on the side of the road.
Around 5.40am on June 25, drivers on a rural highway in Braintree, Minnesota discovered what appeared to be a body along the side of the road.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived to the scene, they found the body of 49-year-old mother Angela McClelland dead from an apparent hit-and-run.
‘The victim is believed to have died as a result of being struck by a vehicle,’ the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Two weeks after Angela’s body was discovered, authorities arrested her husband for her death.
Tony James McClelland, 47, lived with Angela in their Fort Ripley Township home.
An online obituary for Angela married Tony in 2011 at the famous Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, and described the couple as ‘inseparable.’
It also described her as a loving friend and devoted mother to her six children. ‘People naturally flocked to Angie,’ the obituary reads. ‘Her ability to keep a conversation going is one of the many reasons people were so deeply connected to her.’
The obituary also described her as a nature-lover from Embarrass, Minnesota, who enjoyed ‘hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and was a phenomenal constructor of bonfires.’
Authorities have released few details about the victim’s death, or what evidence lead to McClelland’s arrest. ‘Investigators have been working on the case putting the pieces together to the fatal events leading up to the death of the victim,’ the sheriff’s office said on Monday.
McClelland was charged with second-degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide. He was detained at Crow Wing County Jail on Monday night.
McClelland is still awaiting a court date, according to jail records.
