Woman’s body recovered after search at North Yorkshire beach

The body of a woman has been recovered from the sea at a North Yorkshire beach.

Emergency services including a helicopter, ambulances and police went to the incident at Saltburn Beach this afternoon.

Lifeboats were also deployed to assist after an incident shortly around 2pm.

Redcar’s lifeboat station said it responded to an incident between Marske and Saltburn at 1.53pm and deployed two of its lifeboats to assist.

The Humber Coastguard also confirmed a search and rescue mission was underway.

The outcome of the search however turned tragic, and a body of a deceased female was recovered from the sea.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: ‘Police were called to Saltburn beach earlier this afternoon by ambulance service colleagues who were responding to a report of a body in the water.

‘Sadly the body of a female was recovered from the sea shortly afterwards. Formal identification has yet to take place, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased person at this very difficult time.

‘Enquiries into the circumstances of their death are on-going.’

North East Ambulance Service, who responded to the incident, say they were called to reports of a body recovered from the water at 1.35pm today, and they dispatched an air ambulance, two ambulances and a specialist paramedic.’

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance said: ‘We received a call to 999 at 13:35 to reports of a body recovered from the water.

‘The coastguard attended the scene and we dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a specialist paramedic, and the air ambulance.’
