A woman left speechless at a random act of kindness in London has issued a message of thanks to her Good Samaritan.
Martina and Brian Payne had travelled into the heart of the city on Sunday to discuss holiday plans with some good friends.
They boarded the Northern Line to venture home later that evening.
During a change at a busy Kennington Station, the couple sat down on a bench while Brian checked the latest Chelsea scores.
Martina told Metro.co.uk: ‘A man sat next to Brian and I didn’t really take a lot of notice as it was really busy. The first train came along was too hectic, so we decided to wait for the next one.
‘The man was holding a bunch of flowers and I just thought they’d be for a girlfriend or boyfriend or something. Then he reached over and said they were for me.
‘I said “oh, thank you so much for this” and put my arm round him as I told him how sweet he’d been. It was just so nice, it made my day.

‘He didn’t say why he did it, but I had a feeling he maybe does that every so often. I just knew he was a really nice person.’
Martina said the interaction happened too fast for her to remember key details, but she wants the mystery man to know just how much his gesture meant.
She added: ‘It was so lovely, so kind what this man did. If he reads this I’d just like to say thank you so much, it really did make my day.
‘I think you’re great – please carrying on doing what you do! Maybe I should start doing something similar.’
While the London Underground is criticised today as being a rather unsociable place, Martina – in her mid-sixties – remembers it being very different when she moved to London in the early twenties.
‘People would certainly make eye contact, we did speak to each other,’ she recalled.
‘That’s what I grew up with. I’m that person now still talking away with people at the bus stop!
‘The world can seem so negative with all the bad news, but there are really some really lovely people around. We need to remember that.’
Martina and Brian say their kind stranger had tattoos, ‘longish’ hair and seemed to be in his twenties or thirties.
He handed them the flowers at around 8pm on Sunday, March 29.
The bouquet now sit proudly at Martina and Brian’s home near Colliers Wood, providing a daily reminder of all things good in the world.
This isn’t the first time Kennington Station has been the backdrop for a random act of kindness.
The likes of cupcakes, bottles of apple juice and neatly packaged sandwiches were left on benches last year.
