Sun-seekers will be pleased to know an ‘Iberian Plume’ is on its way which will blast the UK with temperatures soaring to 29C.
The heat will start to rise on Thursday, but have your brollies at the ready because the Met Office predicts thundery showers this weekend.
For those who struggled to sleep in the heat last year, the humid nights ahead will not be welcome news.
Some areas of the country will struggle to get below 15 or 16C over the coming days.
The hottest temperature of the year so far is expected this weekend, and some parts of the UK could experience a heatwave.
The threshold for a heatwave is different across the UK, but in some areas it is classified as hitting highs of 25C to 28C across a three-day period.
Simon Partridge, forecaster for the Met Office, said: ‘It will get warmer but there may well be more cloud with heavy, thundery showers mixed in as well.
‘There will still be plenty of sunshine around, but it will come with much muggier nights.’
Mr Partridge said the Iberian Plume will be caused by Storm Oscar, which is currently across the Canary Islands, and will push the high pressure further east, causing the mercury to rise to 25C or 26C.
Southwest England and southwest Wales are likely to experience the highest temperatures.
South west England will experience humid air from Friday as well as a risk of some thundery showers.
Central and southern England are likely to experience the highest temperatures on Friday at 26 or 27C.
But Saturday is set to be the warmest day with the mercury expected to hit 27C or 28C, and north London could potentially reach 29C.
Thundery showers will steadily move across the country from the southwest to the northeast.
Mr Partridge continued: ‘We continue with showers on Sunday and Monday and it will turn a little bit cooler again.
‘Showers over the weekend will become heavy at times, and there’s a risk of a bit of thunder. There will be 10-15mm of rain over the course of two to three hours, which is nothing too significant.’
Mr Partridge confirmed the southwest is most likely to see heatwave-like temperatures.
The hottest day of the year so far was recorded in Porthmadog, northwest Wales, on May 30, where the mercury hit 25.1C.
