A teenager in Texas has been charged with capital murder after fatally shooting his parents, brother, and sister.
On Tuesday, police in the small east Texas town of Nash responded to reports of a male who barricaded himself in his home, hurt his family, and was threatening to shoot himself.
They arrived to find Cesar Olalde, 18, locked inside his home.
The initial report came from a man who worked with Cesar’s mother, Aida Garcia, who came to the house to check in on her when she didn’t show up for work.
The coworker became worried when other members of the Olalde family began calling and asking if he knew where she was.
After the coworker and another family member forced their way into the home, Cesar opened the door and held him at gunpoint with the weapon police believe he used to murder his family.
According to court documents, Olalde told the coworker that he killed his family ‘because they were cannibals, and they were going to eat him.’
Additionally, Olalde himself placed called 911 during the terrifying incident, telling operators ‘numerous’ times that he ‘pulled the trigger and that he had killed his family.’
Olalde was taken into police custody after a ‘brief standoff’ with officers, according to a probable cause affidavit filed against him.
The victims were identified as the shooter’s parents Reuben Olalde and Aida Garcia, his older sister Lisbet Olalde, and his 5-year-old brother Oliver Olalde.
‘It appeared as if the victims had been shot at various places in the residence and drug to the bathroom,’ the affidavit states. Investigators found blood splatters and spent shell casings around the home.
Olalde has been charged with four counts of capital murder. He is being held at a jail in Texarkana, Texas with bond set at $10million.
