Although it may have been Charles’ big day, the youngest members of the royal family came close to stealing the show as they were given a front-row seat to their grandfather’s coronation.

Prince Louis, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were all in attendance during the ceremony to crown King Charles III, and despite being on their best behaviour couldn’t help but act their age.

Five-year-old Louis, the youngest of William and Kate’s children, stole hearts on the way into Westminster Abbey by waving at royal fans as he travelled in a carriage with his parents and two siblings.

Once inside, he could be seen fidgeting and pointed towards the ceiling at various points throughout the ceremony, as his sister Princess Charlotte leaned in to see what he was gesturing at.

In another sweet moment, Princess Charlotte held hands with her younger brother as they waited inside the Abbey.

The siblings were later seen exchanging glances and appearing to have a chat with eachother as they sat side-by-side.

Louis was initially seated in the front row with Charlotte and his parents, but briefly disappeared part way through the service after appearing to be excused from the three-hour proceedings.

However, he later returned at the end of the service to sing the national anthem and join the procession out of the Abbey.

Charlotte, meanwhile, who turned eight this week, was wearing a headpiece which matched her mother’s and struck a similar pose as they entered the Abbey together.

Prince George, the future king, played an important role in the coronation as one of the pages of honour.

He formed part of the procession through the Abbey and helped hold Charles’s robes during the service.

The honour is usually given to teenage sons of members of the nobility, and George today became the youngest future king to have an official role at a coronation.

Later during the day Louis stole the show again when the royals gathered on the balcony,  gesturing wildly out into the crowd as he spoke to his parents, pointing and commenting: ‘Look over there!’ as the RAF flypast soared overhead.

Along with his older brother and sister, Louis stood nearby with Kate and waved enthusiastically at the well-wishers gathered in the Mall below, and continued to wave as his father carried him inside.

The prince was not initially supposed to attend the Coronation, however it appears that at the last minute the family decided to include him in the service.

It is thought that Prince Louis won’t attend tomorrow’s concert in Windsor.
