It’s been a weekend of celebrations in the United Kingdom – with the crowning of King Charles followed by the epic concert at Windsor Castle.
The coronation proved to be the memorable spectacle everyone hoped for, a celebration truly 70 years in the making as many people saw the first ever monarch crowned in their lifetime.
But with all the excitement still in the air, can we keep the good times rolling? Is this Monday a bank holiday, and is it usually one?
Is May 8 a bank holiday?
Yes! This Monday (May 8) is indeed a bank holiday.
It’s an official bank holiday across the nation, with England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all given the day off in celebration of King Charles’ coronation.
Is today usually a bank holiday?
Nope, this one is a nice little extra freebie courtesy of the King, making it a hattrick of Mondays off in May this year.
As the coronation itself took place this Saturday (May 6), this Monday was given off to the nation in lieu.
In May, we usually just have two bank holidays – the Early May Bank Holiday in the first Monday in May each year and the Spring Bank Holiday is the last.
Next year, those will be May 6 and May 27, 2024.
Luckily we don’t have too long to wait until the next one this year, though. The Spring Bank Holiday 2023 is on May 29.

So, why not do something nice and then give yourself a lazy afternoon on the sofa with Netflix afterwards?
