Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has been diagnosed with dementia, The Carter Center has announced.
Ex-President Jimmy Carter’s wife ‘continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones’, stated the center on Tuesday.
The Carter family shared the diagnoses about three months after the former president began hospice care at their home in Georgia. Rosalynn, 95, advocated for mental health and her condition was revealed to lower stigma, according to the center.
‘We recognize, as she did more than half a century ago, that stigma is often a barrier that keeps individuals and their families from seeking and getting much-needed support,’ stated the center.
‘We hope sharing our family’s news will increase important conversations at kitchen tables and in doctor’s offices around the country.’
