Surely, this is a coronation we can all get behind – no protests, no cost to the taxpayer and no ancient traditions.
Though perhaps a little less glamorous than a ceremony in London’s Westminster Abbey, the annual Puppy Prom is for a good cause.
Admittedly, it takes place across the pond, in the city of San Diego, in the US state of California.
But seeing as two members of the Royal Family are also based there, we thought it deserves a spotlight.
The event sees pets in sparkly outfits gathering to determine who is the very best dressed.
It raises money for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, which helps abandoned and rescued dogs.
This year’s ‘Doggy King’ award went to Bear, a Yorkshire Terrier. Another adorable terrier, Bitsy, snapped up the ‘Doggy Queen’ title.
The pair were spotted doing a victory lap in a white mini with a golden ‘Prom’ tag at the front.
Participants wore handmade crowns decorated with gemstones, tutus, tuxedoes, bows and glittery capes.
Just like tradition dictates at a school prom, the pets could take a ‘prom picture’.
The event was hosted in The Original 40 Brewing Company, and it took place on Saturday.
Sharing pictures online, the animal centre wrote: ‘Thank you to The Original 40 Brewing Company for continuing to show your love to rescue pets and for hosting Puppy Prom for the second year in a row.’
