Vladimir Putin is undergoing chemotherapy and there may be plans to ‘throw’ the war in Ukraine’s favour while he is receiving treatment, leaked documents claim.
A recent trove of Pentagon documents believed to be leaked by 21-year-old US National Guardsman Jack Teixeira contained top secret information about the war in Ukraine.
One of the leaks suggests that Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov and Russian National Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev had devised a plan to ‘sabotage’ Mr Putin while he undergoes medical treatment.
‘Russia planned to divert resources from Taganrog, Russia to Mariupol, Ukraine and focus its attention on the southern front,’ the document says.
‘According to [redacted] source, the plan for “the offensive” was suspected to be a strategy devised by [Mr Gerasimov and Mr Patrushev] to sabotage Putin.’
Elsewhere in the document, it states that: ‘Gerasimov opposed the offensive; he informed Putin that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ capabilities were superior to Russia ‘s and cautioned that Russia would suffer heavy casualties were it to proceed with the offensive.
‘[Redacted] on 22 February indicated that Gerasimov reportedly planned to continue his efforts to sabotage the offensive, noting that he promised to “throw” the so-called special military operation by 5 March, when Putin was allegedly scheduled to start a round of chemotherapy, and would thus be able to influence the war effort.’
The documents do not state what medical condition Putin is seeking chemotherapy for, but there have been longstanding rumours that the Russian leader has secretly been battling cancer.
The information contained in the document has not been independently verified.
The document is titled ‘Ukraine Learns of Alleged Russian Plot to “Throw” So-Called Special Military Operation By 5 March’.
It also contains the code ‘TS//SI//REL TO USA, FVEY/FISA’ which indicates the report contains top secret information that was collected through communications monitoring.
The letters mean the contents are only meant for the eyes of US officials with top level security clearance, or intelligence agents from members of the Five Eyes alliance – which includes Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the US.
The leak was posted to a small Discord group of ‘mostly young men and teenagers’ hosted by Mr Teixeira, who spoke about their ‘shared loved of guns, racist online memes, and video games,’ the New York Times reports.
Mr Teixeira is suspected of leaking the documents not for any political reason, but simply to impress members of the group.
Appearing in court today, the US National Guardsman was remanded in custody and charged with unauthorised retention and transmission of national defence information and unauthorised removal of classified information and defence materials.
