It goes without saying that if you happen to stumble across human remains, you should definitely report it to the police.
And that’s exactly what one concerned member of the public did in the town of Long Eaton, Derbyshire.
So they must have been extremely relieved to discover they had actually just found a toy model of Captain Hook and his pet parrot.
Officers from the Long Eaton safer neighbourhood team (SNT) posted a photo of the plastic skeleton on Wednesday.
They told followers: ‘It’s always better to be safe than sorry and report any suspicious incident.
‘The call was made in good faith and officers left the toy to be disposed of by the homeowner.’
Of course, it’s impossible not to find the funny side in such a bizarre situation – and that’s what many locals did.
Many liked the post while several others made jokes in the comments.
Similarly, last month saw Tunkhannock Township Police in the US called to a local creek to reports of a human foot in a plastic bag.
After checking the bag, local officers decided to call the Pennsylvania State Police to open it.
It was then that the item was actually found to be a sex doll.
‘After all the necessary steps were taken, it was determined that the item was not human,’ Tunkhannock Township Police wrote on Facebook.
‘We’ve seen this item referred to as a mannequin online. That really isn’t accurate. This was a lifelike silicone item used for self gratification.
‘It’s the size of a small child, weighs about 50 pounds and is anatomically correct. The foot we were able to observe through the bag was extremely detailed all the way down the French pedicure it had.’
