A ‘headless horseman’ has been ‘haunting’ the people of Brecon after randomly appearing on the street.

The figure popped up in front of an old office building – startling walkers as they head past, the Brecon and Radnor Express reports.

No one knows how it came to be there, but it has not moved for the past week.

It is also unclear where the figure got its rather dapper ruffled shirt, green waistcoat, long velvet coat, trousers and black leather boots from.

But not everyone is scared by the headless figure, as after it was blown over in yesterday’s wind passers-by helped it back to it feet.

In Scotland, an 8ft statue of a gorilla, called Gary, was stolen from a garden centre.

Thieves took off with the structure made of glass outside the Reynard Nursery in Carluke, Lanarkshire, at around midnight on Monday.

Over the years, the statue has become popular with visitors, especially youngsters, and owner Andrew Scott has been left in shock.

Mr Scott told the Daily Record: ‘The pictures are very grainy but a white van pulls up and several people get out.

‘Gary was bolted down to decking so it looks like they unbolted him and carefully placed him in the van. I would say it was planned.

‘When we looked back on the CCTV, an unknown car pulls up at around 10.30pm. It wasn’t a car we recognised so I would say it was connected.’
