Authorities discovered a weapons situation they’d been called to was actually just someone in fancy dress.
Transit Police in Boston, Massachusetts rushed to Back Bay Station on Friday after reports of a person carrying a long gun on one of the railway platforms.
But after arriving at the station around 6pm, they simply found a person dressed as Boba Fett – the iconic bounty hunter from the film franchise Star Wars.
The outfit featured a dark helmet and black non-transparent visor, as well as a replica weapon.
MBTA Transit Police tweeted: ‘Multiple […] units responded to Back Bay for report of a person armed w/a long rifle.
‘Officers located a person in character as “Boba Fett” w/a replica firearm.
‘Officers conversed with the individual & the scene was safe.’
One person on Twitter speculated if the police would have any chance against the real bounty hunter.
They wrote: ‘Okay hold on; let’s assume for a second it was a legit call: what were you guys gonna hope to do against Boba Fett?’
Another added: ‘I don’t think Han Solo would agree with the police assessment that being on the scene with Bobba Fett [sic] is safe.’
Others were less impressed by the disturbance caused by the person’s costume.
Someone wrote: ‘dude should put an orange top on the muzzle, standard for weapons cosplay.’
It’s thought the unidentified person behind the mask was attending the annual Anime Boston convention.
The event attracts thousands each year, with many dressed up as their favourite sci-fi, fantasy and anime characters.
It is being held over the weekend at Boston’s Hynes Convention Centre, less than a mile from Back Bay Station.
