British cyclist, 69, killed in Spain in ‘hit and run’

A British cyclist was killed during a hit-and-run incident in Spain, it has been reported.

The 69-year-old man died after being knocked off his bike on a road in the Torre Torre municipality, near to Almeria, in the south-east of the country.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near a local fire station around 10.30am on Sunday.

Despite the best efforts of medics, he died as a a result of the injuries in the crash.

Local reports say the driver who hit him continued without stopping and assisting the victim.

Civil Guard sources confirmed today that they had arrested a man on suspicion of manslaughter and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

He was bailed pending an ongoing investigation after appearing before a judge in a closed court earlier today.
