The owner of a wedding venue threatened a newlywed couple’s reception by waving a gun at them and their guests.
Wedding guests scrambled frantically as a man yelled ‘get out’ repeatedly and pointed the firearm at multiple people.
A video recorded by the DJ, Jonathan Campo, shows the owner walking around clutching the gun and screaming expletives. A woman is heard saying, ‘let me get my purse’ as the owner continues to demand people to get out.
‘I look up and there’s a gun pointed at me. So, at this point, I don’t know what to think, and I don’t know what he will do,’ Campo, who is the cousin of the bride, told WPLG.
Campo said the owner became enraged during the last song at the event. The DJ said a worker told him to turn off the music over fears of noise complaints, then rushed him and spilled a drink on his equipment, before the owner intervened.
‘Why am I bracing myself to get shot? All I was doing was DJing my cousin’s wedding and trying to give her her last dance,’ Campo told WSVN.
Police responded to the reception at Cielo Farms in Southwest Ranches, Florida, around 11pm on Thursday. The newlyweds had the venue until 11.30pm but the owner demanded that they break it up around 10.54pm, states a police report.
‘Imagine you’re just getting married, my best friend’s first act as a husband is to step in front of a gun for his wife,’ the groom’s best man, Edward Faria, told WSVN.
Two men were arrested – Miguel Rodriguez Albisu and Christian Sergio Rafart – and appeared in Broward County bond court on Saturday.
Albisu is affiliated with the venue, according to Florida Sunbiz, the state’s website for the Division of Corporations. He has been charged with nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill.
Rafart has been charged with battery and resisting arrest.
