A man in his 70s has died in a fire at a flat in south London.
A woman was also taken to hospital with smoke inhalation after 35 firefighters rushed to the blaze in Southwark this morning.
Around five fire engines were called when flames erupted in a ground-floor flat, which was left ‘significantly damaged’.
The man was rescued from the building on Brook Drive around 10am.
But he died at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics.
The woman, from a neighbouring flat, was treated before being taken to hospital.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and an investigation has been launched. No arrests have been made.
