A 14-year-old boy riding a bull during a rodeo was thrown off and stomped by the animal and died.
Denim Bradshaw lay unconscious in the ring at a rodeo in North Carolina.
He loved bull riding and enjoyed the sport until his last moments, his mother Shannon Bowman shared on Facebook.
‘I hate myself for this call but he was loving every second of it I never seen him so happy as I had seen him last night before his departure,’ wrote Bowman.
‘Denim baby you did it!! You did that!! I’m so proud of your braveness and your courage! My lil cowboy I will love and miss you so much and I know God will take care of you.’
The mother added that ‘for the sake of your bull riding friends there should be emt on site in this sport!’ and that Denim’s ride was a little too long.
An emergency response unit with Stokes County responded to a report of a cardiac arrest at the rode at American Legion Post 290 in King around 8.24pm on Saturday.
Members of the King Fire Department contracted to stand by at the rodeo were already administering first aid to Denim when the county emergency crew arrived. The county workers transported injured Denim to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
‘He was one of the participants when this happened,’ Brandon Gentry, the Stokes County emergency management director, told the Winston-Salem Journal. ‘He was riding a bull and was thrown off.’
Amanda Paquette, the mother of another boy who was competing at the rodeo, told WFMY News 2 that she saw the bull stomp on Denim’s chest.
Action at the rodeo, which had been held for many years at the American Legion on Saturdays, halted as emergency aid was rendered to Denim.
The rodeo company wrote on Facebook that ‘words cannot describe the pain felt by this loss’ at the ‘tragic event’.
‘Our sport is truly a family and we are so thankful for everyone that was there to help,’ the rodeo stated.
Bowman expressed gratitude for prayers and to her daughter who handled donations and found Denim ‘a horrible but beautiful red casket that I’m almost sure he would have picked himself if he had too!’
