Today is the first bank holiday of 2023 – as New Year’s Day fell on a Sunday this year.

Great news for anyone who’s got the day off, but what does it mean if you want to get a move on with your food shopping?

Perhaps you’ve cleared the cupboards over Christmas or indulged a tad too much on New Year’s Eve – or simply need to stock up on some fresh or frozen favourites for the week or fortnight ahead.

Whatever the case, you’ll be pleased to know that Aldi, Iceland and Lidl are all open today.

Here’s (roughly) when they’re open – and how to check your local shop’s exact times.

Aldi

Aldi shops across the UK were closed yesterday for New Year’s Day – but are reopening today.

Many will open from 8am, though do check the Aldi store finder for your nearest’s exact opening hours.

Lidl

Similarly, anyone hoping to visit Lidl yesterday would have been left disappointed, as shops closed for New Year’s Day.

However, many Lidl shops will be open today from 8am to 8pm despite the bank holiday – although it really depends on the store, as we’ve noticed that some are due to be open earlier and longer.

Check your local Lidl opening times using the Lidl store finder before you venture out.

Usual trading hours will return from Tuesday, January 3 onwards.

Iceland

A January 2 trip to Iceland is possible, as many shops will open from 9am to 6pm.

As always, this varies by shop quite a bit – we’ve seen seasonal hours varying from 8.30am to 5.30pm, 8am to 8pm, and an Iceland in New Cross, London, is set to shut at 10pm, for example.

You’d be wise to take a look at your nearest shop via the Iceland store locator, so you can get your shopping done without issue.
