Two people were killed by a suspected drunk driver in a hit-and-run on a pedestrian crosswalk in Las Vegas.

Around 7.40pm on Thursday night, first responders were called to a crosswalk at Las Vegas’s Fremont Street Experience after an SUV collided with two pedestrians crossing the street.

The Fremont Street Experience is an open-air mall area filled with popular bars, restaurants, and casinos, including the Golden Nugget Hotel.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the pedestrians had begun crossing while a ‘don’t cross’ signal was still displayed.

The driver, who was behind the wheel of a burgundy GMC Acadia SUV, fled the scene after hitting the pedestrians and did not return on her own accord.

The two victims were not yet identified while police work to notify their next-of-kin. They were only described as a 44-year-old man from Monument, Minnesota and a 51-year-old woman from Hobbs, New Mexico.

When first responders arrived at the scene, the male victim was described as ‘beyond medical intervention’ and immediately pronounced dead.

The woman was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center Trauma, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Although the driver fled the scene, she was ‘quickly located’ by Las Vegas police officers.

The driver was identified as 28-year-old Mykael Lanice-Lynn Terrell. According to police, she ‘displayed signs of impairment’ and was arrested for hit-and-run and driving under the influence.

Terrell appeared before a judge on Thursday night, who set her bail at $100,000 and a court date for January 4. If she is able to pay bail, she will have to wear an ankle monitor and will be barred from driving pending her trial.

An attorney for Terrell said that she lives in Las Vegas and is a single mother of a 3-year-old child.

Just one hour earlier, Las Vegas Police responded to another hit-and-run on Boulder Highway.

The suspect was described as driving a silver or light gray SUV. As of Friday afternoon, they have still not been located.

The victim, a 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three deaths marked the 149th, 150th, and 151st traffic-related deaths in the city for the year. A total of 31 of those deaths were from hit-and-runs.
