Former President Donald Trump on the eve of the midterm elections said he will make a ‘very big announcement’ next week.
Trump, who has repeatedly teased that he will run for president in 2024, gave a specific date for his proclamation in a Tuesday evening rally for Republican candidates.
‘Not to detract from tomorrow’s very important, even critical election – and I would say in the strongest way it’s a country-saving election – specifically including the election of all the people that I’m going to name,’ Trump said from Ohio.
‘I’m going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15, at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.’
His supporters cheered.
‘We want nothing to detract from the importance of tomorrow. You understand that, JD?’ continued Trump, referring to Republican JD Vance, who is running against Democratic Rep Tim Ryan for a Senate seat.
November 15 – exactly one week after midterms Election Day – is a day after the previously reported date that Trump is supposedly considering to launch his presidential campaign. Three sources familiar with the talks told Axios on Friday that the ex-president’s team discussed announcing his bid on November 14.
Last Thursday during a rally for Republicans, Trump said he was very likely running again.
‘In order to make our country successful and safe and glorious, I will very, very, very probably do it again…’ Trump said from Sioux City, Iowa. ‘Get ready that’s all I’m telling you – very soon. Get ready.’
The New York Post reported on Monday that Trump told a few of his allies that he could announce his bid that very day at the rally in Ohio. However, that did not happen.
On Tuesday, Trump revealed that he voted to re-elect Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, his potential rival for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Trump said he voted for DeSantis just days after labeling him ‘DeSanctimonious’ at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
After emerging from a polling booth in Palm Beach, Trump also predicted a ‘great night’ for Republicans. The GOP is forecast to gain a majority in the House of Representatives, while the fight for control of the currently evenly split Senate remains very close.
Trump then doubled down his plan for next week.
‘I think Tuesday will be a very exciting day for a lot of people and I look forward to seeing you at Mar-a-Lago,’ Trump told reporters.
