Former President Donald Trump was issued a subpoena to testify before a congressional committee investigating the events of the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The House Select Committee previously voted unanimously to subpoena the former president last week.

‘This is a question about accountability to the American people. He must be accountable. He is required to answer for his actions,’ Committee Chair Representative Bennie Thompson said.

Trump has not said whether or not he will comply with the subpoena, which compels him to testify under threat of contempt of congress.

The House of Representatives has vote four times to hold individuals in contempt of congress for refusing to comply with committee subpoenas or provide documents.

One of those held in contempt, former White House advisor Steve Bannon, was sentenced to four months in prison earlier today for his refusal.
