The Royal Family has posted a heartfelt tribute to the Queen after she was finally laid to rest in a private service tonight.

A picture posted on Twitter shows Her Majesty at a young age walking through the countryside.

Wearing a headscarf and a green jacket, she looks content and deep in thought.

A moving Shakespeare quote beside the image reads: ‘May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.

‘In loving memory of Her Majesty The Queen. 1926 – 2022.’

This is the same quote a devastated King Charles used to end his historic first television address as Britain’s monarch.

Pledging to serve the nation as loyally as his mother did, he said: ‘To my darling Mama, as you begin your last great journey to join my dear late Papa, I want simply to say this: thank you.

‘Thank you for your love and devotion to our family and to the family of nations you have served so diligently all these years.

‘May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.’

The line features in Act 5 Scene 2 of Hamlet, when Horatio holds his dying friend in his arms says: ‘Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.’

Addressing Parliament for the first time as Head of State, Charles also quoted Shakespeare while describing his ‘selfless’ mother’s remarkable legacy.

‘As Shakespeare says of the earlier Queen Elizabeth, she was “a pattern to all princes living”‘, he said.

The Queen is now at peace with husband Prince Philip after her family gathered to say goodbye at 7.30pm.

She was buried beneath the King George VI Memorial Chapel following an emotional state funeral and committal service earlier today.
