A ‘vile’ murderer has been jailed for 18 years after killing his landlady.

Mohsen Saadi, 57, stabbed 42-year-old care worker Peninah Kabeba, known as Penny, 12 times at her home in Sutton, south London, on 27 May last year.

He had been a lodger in her home and launched his ‘senseless’ attack after being told to move out.

Saadi denied murder, but was nevertheless found guilty by a jury at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday.

The 57-year-old had been living at Ms Kabeba’s home for a short period prior to the incident.

Neighbours raised the alarm with police after hearing noises from their home on Park Road, Cheam at 9:55pm.

Officers found Ms Kabeba inside and desperately provided first aid until paramedics arrived on the scene. But despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:34pm.

The neighbour called the police meanwhile kept Saadi in his sight and directed officers to him.

Detective Sargent Marc Gadd, who led the investigation into the incident, said the neighbour’s actions were crucial in enabling a swift arrest.

Sgt Gadd said: ‘Saadi is a vile man who took Penny’s life in an act of senseless gratuitous violence.

‘I know this has been an incredibly difficult time for Penny’s family and friends but I hope the fact Saadi will now spend a significant amount of time in prison brings them some peace.’

Saadi, of no fixed address, denied but was convicted of murder and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years.
